IFBB Pro Fitness Drops One Piece and Short Routines

The IFBB just issued an advisory notice that starting with the 2009 IFBB Ft Lauderdale Pro Fitness show there will no longer be a one piece round or a 45 second routine round in IFBB pro fitness.

As is to be expected there are many mixed feelings about the changes, most notably the expense competitors have already gone to purchasing one piece suits and of course the suit makers will take a big shot over this one.

The upside is that shows will move more quickly now and in light of that, more promoters may potentially be interested in offering pro fitness at shows as the time required is more manageable. The reduced expense of a second suit will also be a welcome addition for most competitors as well.

IFBB Olympia Prize Money Reaches An All Time High In 2009

American Media Inc. (AMI) and the IFBB Professional League has announced that the total prize money for the 2009 Olympia, presented by MuscleTech and brought to you by Bodybuilding.com, will be increased to $800,000. Included in that total is a $200,000 purse for winning the Mr. Olympia, an increase of $45,000 from 2008. Overall, the total prize money has been increased by over $60,000 from last year's event.

"We are thrilled to announce the increase in prize money for the 2009 Olympia," said AMI Chairman, President and CEO David J. Pecker. "The Olympia Weekend is the biggest and best event in bodybuilding, so we believe the prize money for the competitors should be a reflection of that. As far as what's at stake, the Olympia is clearly setting the standard."

2009 IFBB Joe Weider Pro World Cup Bodybuilding Championships Postponed

On Wednesday, American Media, Inc. (AMI) and the IFBB Professional League announced the debut of Joe Weider’s Pro World Cup in Berlin, Germany will be postponed until 2010.

"Since taking over Weider Publications and Joe Weider’s Olympia Weekend in 2004, AMI has been dedicated to expanding bodybuilding not only in the United States, but across the world," AMI Chairman, President and CEO David Pecker said. "Our intention in launching Joe Weider’s Pro World Cup is to continue those efforts by hosting an event on par with the biggest and best in the United States."

"Unfortunately, due to the current economic conditions in both America and Europe, it became increasingly apparent that matching the high standards we set every year with Olympia Weekend would be an extremely difficult task. As such, we will be postponing the inaugural Pro World Cup until 2010 in order to ensure that we will be giving the European fans the best possible bodybuilding experience."

In 2010, Joe Weider’s Pro World Cup will be held at Messe Berlin in Berlin, Germany on October 6-10, two weeks after Olympia Weekend. As originally planned, the weekend will include the European Pro Championships, a Powerlifting Supershow, a European FLEX Bikini Model Search and a Superstar Seminar.

Dennis James Withdraws From 2009 IFBB Australia Pro

Dennis James has withdrawn from the 2009 Australia Pro Show due to illness after recently placing 7th at the Arnold Classic last weekend.

Lee Priest Having Surgery, Out of 2009 IFBB Australian Pro

Lee Priest is most definitely out of the 2009 IFBB Australian Pro, which has disappointed thousands of fans who wanted to see the comeback of one of the most prolific IFBB competitors, who was suspended when he left for a while.

Lee is going to have surgery this Wednesday in Australia on a torn tendon, which needed to be screwed back on to the bone and stitched (Lee’s words).

After that, he won’t be able to move the arm for six weeks.

We wish Lee a speedy recovery.

For all those fans in Australia, Lee is still supposed to be at the 2009 IFBB Australian Pro, just not competing on stage, but to greet the Australian fans.
